Defense Language Institute (DLI)

DLI has a number of language resources for Levantine Arabic that you can access for free. These websites are great as they are rich with materials.

DLI GLOSS

The Gloss has 228 Levantine Arabic lessons. Every lesson has a wide range of vocabulary and grammar that is focused on one theme. All lessons are interactive and rich with new language. The levels range from 1/1 (Intermediate Low) to 3/3 (Superior)

DLI Phone Conversations

This website has 200 Levantine Arabic phone conversations on many daily life topics, and the levels range from 2/2 (Advanced Low) to 3/3 (Superior). Each conversation comes with files for guiding the listener on what to focus on, and some exercises.

 

DLI Accent Library

This website presents 22 topics, all formal topics (Ex: economy, culture, geography...etc.) You can scroll down to choose the level (2/2 Advanced Low - 3/3 Superior), and the topic. Because these topics are stories at the advanced + levels, they are in Modern Standard Arabic. However, every topic of the 22 is narrated by native speaker from many Arab countries, and those accents are

As you listen to the same story narrated in MSA, you will hear a difference in the dialects among those speakers coming from different countries. What is interesting in this website is that you get to observe the difference in dialects not just at the low variety (vernacular Arabic), but at the MSA level. In addition, when speaking at the higher level (2/2 Advanced Low - 3/3 Superior), the difference between MSA and vernacular dialects of Arabic (Ex: Levantine) becomes very small, so there is actually no big difference.

DLI Language Survival Kits

This page has a number of resources on language and culture. You get to choose language or country, and there are number of sub-pages to choose from. There are a lot of cultural and factual sheets. In addition, there are a lot of language resources, mostly vocabulary.

This website allows to test yourself in Levantine Arabic. You can easily register and test yourself in Levantine Arabic.

LangMedia Five College Center for the Study of World Languages

This page has a lot of resources on Levantine Arabic. You can find videos with their scripts. These videos are interviews or dialogues of individuals from the Levant's countries. They discuss mostly formal topics (like culture, economy, politics...etc). The levels of these topics are 1/1 and above.

Pimsleur: Eastern Arabic

Eastern Arabic (Levantine Arabic) is one of the languages this company offers. This method, which cost money focuses on letting the student listen to vocabulary in English and in the target language (Levantine Arabic.) It's available for beginners and intermediate levels.

 

University of Maryland: The National Foreign Language Center 

This university offers subscription to access their Levantine Arabic language materials.

This website has a lot of resources and info about Levantine Arabic. You may choose the dialect/lesson on the column at the left.

SoundCloud: ma-wara-al-logha

This is a podcast of Jordanian Arabic that discusses different topics. It's a dialogue between Alex and Lina. This podcast is good for students at Intermediate level and above.

Memrise: Levantine Arabic

This is a well-known website that teaches languages for free. I have not used this website for Levantine Arabic, but I did for other languages. It is a great resource of basic vocabulary flashcards and exercises.

The Living Arabic Project

This website is an online dictionary of Levantine Arabic. It's a growing project, and it gets better by time.
